Greetings --

Herewith are the results of the College of Heralds meeting held at Namron
Beltane on May 9. Please note that no decision can be considered final
until it has appeared in the Ansteorran Gazette.

					Gwenllian, Asterisk

1) Abigail Pinel
Name – forwarded to Laurel as submitted

2) Aeddan ap Trahaern
Device – returned for violating RfS VIII.2.b.iv which states that
"elements divided into multiple parts of two different tinctures must have
good contrast between their parts."

3) Alarich Iarngard von Thorn
Name – forwarded to Laurel as submitted
Device – returned for conflict with William of Lochmere, "Chevronelly
argent and azure, a lion rampant to sinister and a bordure Or." There is
only one CD for the changes to the field.
Badge – returned for violating various Laurel precedents which ban the use
of charges drawn barely overall. Since overall charges are usually not
permissible on fieldless badges and cannot be used with fimbriated
ordinaries, the badge must be redrawn with the lion’s face fully on the
cross formy.

4) Alix Sigri von Ravensburg
Name – forwarded to Laurel as "Alix von Ravensburg." With the submittor’s
permission, we have dropped the undocumentable second give name.
Device – returned for conflict with Frederick of Feoliddwyn, "Per chevron
sable and argent, a pale ermine." There is only one CD for the changes to
the field.

5) Annabel Kincaid
Device – forwarded to Laurel as submitted

6) Cassandra de Laci
Device – forwarded to Laurel with the blazon changed to "Or, a catamount
rampant sable and on a chief triangular gules a hawk’s lure Or."

7) Cathlin Sommerfield
Badge – forwarded to Laurel as submitted

8) Eleanor Taylor
Device – forwarded to Laurel with the blazon changed to "Checky vert and
argent, a pink flamingo statant close proper."

9) Esther Anne Wright
Device – forwarded to Laurel with the blazon changed to "Per saltire Or
and argent, four frogs heads outward azure."

10) Evandre of Middleham Moor
Name – forwarded to Laurel as "Evandre of Middleham More." While the name
is at best implausible, the presence in medieval England of Latinized Greek
names such as Cassandra and Hector suggests that it is probably registerable.
Device – forwarded to Laurel as submitted

11) Galen St. Amand
Name – forwarded to Laurel as "Galen Saint Amand." As with Evandre
(above), the combination of a Greek given name with an Anglo-Norman byname
is unlikely but probably registerable.
Device – forwarded to Laurel with the blazon changed to "Per bend sable
and gules, a crescent and a sword within a bordure Or." The submittor is
advised to draw the charges and the bordure larger in the future.

12) Gilyan Ailionora Clonmachnoise
Name – forwarded to Laurel as "Gilyan Alienora of Clonmacnoise." We have
changed the spelling of the second given name and added "of" to the
locative byname to resolve the problem of mixing English and Gaelic
orthography.
Device – forwarded to Laurel with the blazon changed to "Per bend purpure
and vert, a bend dovetailed between a horseshoe and a wolf’s pawprint Or."

13) Hugh fitz Maynard
Device – returned for violating a Laurel precedent from 3/93 indicating
that game boards must be drawn as delfs with the game markings on them
rather than as simply lines on the field (which makes them thin-line
heraldry).

14) John Luke Malleolus
Name – forwarded to Laurel as submitted. While we have reservations about
the combination of English given names with a Latinized German surname, we
believe the name is likely to be registerable.
Device – forwarded to Laurel with the blazon changed to "Per bend azure
and argent, a bend between a chasing hammer and a Latin cross fleury all
counterchanged."

15) Krag von Berghen
Name – forwarded to Laurel as submitted

16) Magnus von Lübeck
Name – forwarded to Laurel as submitted
Device – forwarded to Laurel with the blazon changed to "Argent, on a
chevron gules three mortars and pestles Or, a chief gules."

17) Mercedes de Cerdanya
Name – forwarded to Laurel as "Mercedes de Cerdaña." While Talan’s
evidence suggests that Mercedes is not a period name, it has been
registered without comment in recent years, and we would prefer to leave
the decision up to Laurel.

18) Owen ap Aeddan ap Trahaern
Name – pended awaiting receipt of a letter of permission from Aeddan ap
Trahaern

19) Padric O Mullan
Name – forwarded to Laurel as submitted
Device – returned for violating a Laurel precedent from 11/92 which
states, "If the voided charge can be reblazoned as ‘On a [charge], another’
– that is, if the inner line and the outer line of the voided charge are
geometrically similar – then it's simple enough to void." By these
standards, a Celtic cross is too complex to fimbriate.

20) Reginleif Ragnarsdottir
Device – forwarded to Laurel with the blazon changed to "Or chapé gules, a
raven displayed azure."

21) Rosalia O Brogan
Device – forwarded to Laurel with the blazon changed to "Argent, two rose
branches in saltire vert, each with a rose gules, and on a chief sable
three butterflies Or."

22) Rosalie Automne
Device – forwarded to Laurel with the blazon changed to "Vert, two oak
sprigs in chevron and on a base argent a rose azure."

23) Stefan de Bâle
Name – forwarded to Laurel as "Stefan de Basle."

24) Stephen McLarty
Name – forwarded to Laurel as submitted
Device – forwarded to Laurel with the blazon changed to "Gules, a hammer
inverted and on a chief Or three anvils sable."

25) Theodric Afhaims
Badge – returned for conflict with Nicholas Wolfmer, "Gyronny of six
issuant from base gules and Or, a wolf’s pawprint argent," with only the CD
for fielded versus fieldless armory.

26) Thomas O Toole
Name – forwarded to Laurel as submitted

27) Thomas Taylor
Device – returned for conflict with Joanne of Puffin Cliff, "Per chevron
Or and sable, a puffin displayed proper." A Laurel precedent from 11/91,
states that "there is no difference between two types of birds of similar
shape or silhouette in identical postures." Puffins and penguins have
similar proper coloration and shape so that the only CD is from changes to
the field.

28) Ysfael Bryndu
Name – forwarded to Laurel as submitted
Device – returned for redrawing. The line of division is neither clearly
per chevron inverted nor a chief triangular and this ambiguity has been
grounds for return in recent years.
