I haven't made time to send individual return letters, so I'm depending on
the heralds to read the Gazette and give feedback to the submitters. I will
also post the abbreviated ILoAR to the list. If any of you can, I
respectfully request that you aid in this noble endeavor.

My thanks to those who are already doing this. I know some of you are,
because I've gotten resubmissions for things I've returned but not written a
letter about. At some time in the future I hope to reinstate HL Gwenllian's
practice of writing detailed individual letters, but for now I can't.

Here are the abbreviated decisions for ILOI 0399 as decided at the Kingdom
meeting held in the Shire of Rosenfeld on May 8, 1999.

1. Alexandros Kaloethes (Wastelands)
Name: Forwarded to Laurel as submitted.
Device: Forwarded to Laurel reblazoned as "..a griffon segreant Or."

2. Bice di Pietro (Loch Ruadh)
Device: Forwarded to Laurel as submitted. There is a question of
identifiability between the Or fimbriation and the Or cross, particularly if
one remembers that the black line that separates them in the line drawing
should disappear completely when the device is colored. However, the
majority of those at the meeting thought it was either registerable, or a
legitimate question for the CoA to consider and Laurel to decide.

3. Bice di Pietro (Loch Ruadh)
Badge: Returned for conflict with Honor of Restormel, "Argent, on a lozenge
sable a mullet Or." There is a CD for the field, but the fimbriation here
counts for nothing, and since there is not a substantial change in type
between an estoile and a mullet, nothing for the change to type only of the
tertiary per X.4.j.ii.

4. Caitlin nan Cnoc Airgead (Gate's Edge) [typo in Gazette: Croc]
Device: Returned for conflict with "Sable, on a pile argent a sword inverted
gules, the hilt between three crescents, one and two, azure" (Morgan MacNeil
of Clan Fergus, 08/82, Caid) with one CD for various changes to tertiaries.
At the meeting this device was pended for up to one month for consultation
with the submitter, who originally drew chaussé but called it a pile.
Further research reveals that both chaussé and pile have SCA conflicts. The
submitter knew there was a conflict and submitted the device to get the
information she needed to pursue permission to conflict, which she has now.

5. Cathlin Sommerfield (Bjornsborg)
Badge: Forwarded to Laurel as submitted.

6. Conal Alexandria O'Riordáin (Lindenwood)
Name: After careful consultation with the submitter, who was at the Kingdom
meeting that considered this submission, the name is being forwarded to
Laurel as "Conall Ó Ríoghbhardáin". The LoI will note that the submitter
authorized this change, and that she doesn't care that it would have been
exclusively masculine in period.
Device: Withdrawn by the submitter upon being shown the simularity to
Meadhbh Fionnghuala nic Mhartha and being told that the device she originally
wanted was not prohibited by the Rules for Submission, thus neatly relieving
the meeting from deciding on conflict. [(Da'ud = conflict) + (Bryn Gwlad =
clear) = (meeting = leery)].

7. Connor Makinzie (Wastelands)
Device: Pended for submission of an acceptable name, since "Connor Makinzie"
was returned by Laurel 04/99 for coflict with Connor MacKenzie (10/98, West).
Reblazoned as "Per pale engrailed azure and argent, a natural dolphin
urinant argent and three escallops one and two azure." There are several
ways to place and counterchange these charges, so specific tinctures were
used to eliminate confusion.

8. Devin Quinn (Wastelands)
Name: Forwarded to Laurel as Davin Quinn.

9. Duncan MacDougall (Mendersham)
Name: Returned for conflict with Duncan MacDougald registered June 1998 (via
Æthelmearc).
Device: Returned for conflict with Jordre Pargon of Windhover's Reach (12/92
via Atlantia), "Azure, a snow leopard sejant argent, spotted sable" with one
CD for the wings and nothing for the spots or the head position. Note also
Kiara Aelwold registered June 1995: "Sable goutty, a winged lion sejant
guardant argent." Also compare Cateline Margoteau de Carcasonne registered
August 1998: "Sable estencely, a bat-winged domestic cat sejant contourny
regardant wings elevated argent." This would prevent fixing the problem by
changing the way the kitty faces.

10. Elfsea, Barony of
Badge: Returned because excessive counterchanging renders the charges
unidentifiable.

11. Ivor MacFergus (Loch Ruadh)
Name: Forwarded to Laurel as submitted, with dated spellings noted as
possible.
Device: Forwarded to Laurel as "Gules, a claymore, its hilt between the wings
of a vol Or.

12. Jadwiga Palangis (Mendersham)
Name: Pended for up to one month to determine which form of the surname she
wants. Married female vs. unmarried female.
Device: Pended for up to one month to be forwarded with name, reblazoned as
"…crosses of Lorraine…"
Submitter wil be advised to draw the bend wider in the future, to better
accommodate the bow.

13. James Parker (Wastelands)
Device: Forwarded to Laurel as "Counter-ermine, …..".

14. Lionardo Acquistapace (Bjornsborg)
Device: Returned for conflict with Jerimia von Braun (11/81 via Atenveldt),
"Azure, two domestic cats sejant respectant, tals sufflexed and crossed in
saltire Or," with CD for the field and nothing for the tails, whatever they
may be doing. Submitter is pursuing permission to conflict.

15. Mincloth ingen Lachlainn (Steppes)
Name: Forwarded to Laurel as "Mincloth ingen Lochlainn."

16. Raimond George De Mora (Elfsea)
Name: Forwarded to Laurel as "Raimond George de Mora."
Device: Forwarded to Laurel reblazoned as "..a key palewise wards in base to
dexter counterchanged." Submitter will be advised to drawer the mullet
bigger in the future.

17. Rathad Le An Caisteal, Incipient Shire
Name: Withdrawn by submitters. The meeting pended this name for consultation
with representatives of the branch about alternates and the production of a
new populace poll. However, personal consultation by Bordure resulted in a
different submission. (See ILoI 0699.)
Device: Pended for an acceptable name. Those at the meeting were concerned
about the identifiability of the tower because it has to be so small to fit
on the conjuction of the saltire.

18. Tessa di Rimini (Wastelands)
Device: Forwarded to Laurel as submitted. (Name was registered by Laurel
4/99.)
