Vanessa is a Post Period given name mentioned in Withycombe and Hanks
and Hodges.
H&H gives more info on the name. Vanessa: English, name invented by
Jonathan Swift (1667-1745) for his intimate friend Esther Vanhomrigh. It
seems to have been derived fromthe first syllable of her Dutch surname,
with the addition of the suffix -essa (perhaps influenced by the first
syllable of her given name).
Withycombe says: invented by Swift as a partial anagram of the name of
Ester Vanhomrigh...and occasionally used as a christian name since then.
I see no problem with 'de Verona'.

A friend is someone who knows the song in your heart and can sing it
back to you when you have forgotten the words.
