[ANSTHRLD] presumptuous names

The actual rule is:

3. Names Claiming Specific Relationships - Names that unmistakably imply
identity with or close relationship to a protected person or literary
character will generally not be registered. Explicit claims to descend from
a particular person, such as Edwin fitzWilliam Marshall or Rhys ap Cariadoc
of the Bow will not be registered. (The
latter could be registered with a letter of permission from Cariadoc of the
Bow.) However, since there are many people named William and Cariadoc, Edwin
fitzWilliam or Rhys ap Cariadoc would not conflict by themselves.

It appears they are aiming at direct descent as
in son or daughter of the specific person.

This problem had been extremely rare until 3 element
Gaelic and Welsh names started turning up.

>What constitutes a "close relationship"?
The examples are only for son or daughter of
a registered name.

>Siobhan ingen Domnaill ui Somhairle conflict with me
>(Medb ingen Domnaill ui Somhairle) as an implied
>sister? Can no one else use "---ingen Domnaill ui Somhairle" ?

I doubt this is a problem given the examples the
rule cites. Again the concern has been son or
daughter of protected name.

>Would Domnall mac Somhairle pass?
I don't think that side of it has ever come up
at least not that I can find in precedents. Under
the rest of the rules the name would be clear.

This really needs to be asked on SCA HRLDS.
You may have found a return landmine no one has
stepped on yet.
