I just finished a rough translation of:

Lena Peterson. "Nordisk runnamnslexikon. (Dictionary of Names from Old Norse
Runic Inscriptions)." Språk- och folkminnes-institutet (Institute for
Dialectology, Onomastics and Folklore Research).
http://grimnir.dal.lu.se/runlex/index.htm Accessed 15 August 2001.

The resulting English version is pretty big (150 pages) so I made a PDF of
the document, which was still over 2MB, and then I zipped that, resuling in
a 1.5MB file, located at:

http://www.vikinganswerlady.org/FTP_Files/Nordiskt%20runnamnslexikon.zip

To read this file, you will need a utility such as WinZip
(http://www.winzip.com) to uncompress it, and you will need the free Adobe
Acrobat Reader (http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/alternate.html) to
actually open the file.

If you want a printed copy, you can either print it at home (all 150 pages)
or just go to any Kinko's and give them the www.vikinganswerlady.org address
above and have them print it for you directly. You should be able to have
Kinko's print it double-sided in black and white, and have it spiral-wire
bound, with a clear vinyl front and black vinyl back cover for around $20 (a
rough estimate, it cost me a lot less but then I get a business rate with
Kinkos, so check with your own local shop to see what the actual charge will
be to print).

My Swedish is not particularly good -- I translate with the dictionary in
one hand and the gramar in the other and sometimes I am still completely
guessing -- so if you need extremely accurate translation, check it against
the Swedish original version online. The names themselves, along with
variant forms of the names and etymological information is all going to be
pretty accurate, as I cross-checked the Old Norse elements back against my
Cleasby-Vigfusson dictionary as a double-check on my understanding of the
Swedish. The least accurate parts will be the intro sections, where you'll
still get the gist if not the perfect accurate translation. In a few places
the Swedish was beyond my abilities and beyond my dictionary, and those are
usually marked in red and are still in the original Swedish.

There are a goodly number of names in "Nordisk runnamnslexikon" that are not
in Geirr Bassi, so I think this will be a useful reference for Old Norse
names. Now that I have a working translation on hand, I will start
integrating the info into my on-line articles on Old Norse names, which I
can see right now are going to need to be split up quite a bit...

I'm making this translation available for anyone in the SCA to use for
personal use or for a herald's office files. I explicitly do not grant
permission for anyone to sell this version in either print or electronic
form without prior written permission from me.

Enjoy!
