I don't recall ever seeing an animal facing away from the viewer.  Facing
forward, left, and right, yes, but never seen one facing away.  Possibly
because part of identifying the charge is to see its face.  There are a few
heraldic beasts that could be confused if you didn't see its face, i.e.
anything that has an animal body with a human face like a sphinx or harpy,
or something with the body of one animal and the head/face of another.
