That has worked in the past, but there have been instances (I think in patent, not copyright cases, but I'm not sure) of the courts refusing this as evidence.

To add my $.02
The easy way to prove that a design is yours is to stick it in a envlope and mail it to yourself.... The courts like the us postal system and it holds up in court with the date stamp... when you get the letter dont open it just stick it away....
This is mostly for mundane stuff but it should apply in the SCA as well...
