[ANSTHRLD] looking for historic info

Does anybody have good sources of information for historical English titles
and lands?  I'm trying to research how grants of titles and lands were
originated, and how hereditary titles pass down.  I'm also curious to find
out some bits like what the second son of a noble (duke/marquis/earl/baron)
might have used as a title.  And the first son for that matter while their
father was still alive.
