From the Shire of Ffynnon Gath to the august and puissant membership of
this mail list,

Greetings,

I just know that when I post this there will be a collective "Oh no, not
Ivo Again".... <g>

As you have no doubt gathered by now, I'm a new herald attempting to
outfit himself. I think we have come to a consensus on the subject of
tabards, but another item has reared it's ugly length... The Herald's
staff is variously, in various places, described as being slightly
taller than the Herald bearing it, painted green or parti-colored green
and yellow (usually barber pole fashion) with green and yellow ribbons
and a finial of some variety. Before I go letting my artistic instincts
loose on this concept, is there anything I should know? Is there a
commonly accepted Kingdom design?

Being five foot nine and a half inches tall (just to be specific,
realizing I'm addressing heralds <g>) I foresee a staff six feet six
inches tall (just in case my successor is a six footer), stained green
(so that wood grain shows through), with a brass finial incorporating
the cat statant of the shire and green and yellow ribbons (narrow about
quarter inch) issuing from the base of the final and hanging down twelve
inches.

Yours In Service,

Ivo FitzDonald
Acting Herald Ffynnon Gath
