Hm... The first thing I do when I don't have any books about is take a 
cursory glance through St. Gabriel. I didn't come up with "Gilana" but there 
are some similar looking names. I also looked through Reaney's DES, since it 
was on my desk.

Anyway, the results of a cursory glance through St. Gabe's, looking for 
similar names:

Aryanhwy's Jewish names in France article 
(http://www.ellipsis.cx/~liana/names/levy/) has "Gelein". I wouldn't expect 
the names to come from the same root, however. This is coincidence.

Ary's Perigeux article (http://www.ellipsis.cx/~liana/names/perigueux.html) 
has "Gileta". Again, different roots. Coincedence.

Reaney's DES has "Giliana" which is of course a variant of "Juliana".

So that's close (some closer than others, admittedly.) but still no dice. If 
anyone happens to find it though, I'd certainly love to see. It's a very 
nice name.
