Beautiful idea. And the simile (without the coffee reference) could be part of the text. 
 
Let it be known that We (the Crown) know that warriors are the steel, which strikes sparks from their foes and sets aflame the battlefields with victory. And having proved to Us those attributes, We award the Sable Steel to (Receipient). etc, etc....    
 
BTW: A furison is a steel device for striking against flint to create a fire. 
Furisons also form links in the collar (chain) of the Order of the Golden Fleece, the foremost Spanish order of chivalry.
