[ANSTHRLD] Shires and Thank Yous

One thing comes to mind ... they already have an AoA. I have one but not a Comet or a Crane. I've been in the SCA for 7 years, got my AoA after about a year and a half and haven't had an award since. I got the AoA probably because I took on the job of Minister of Children for Gate's Edge. And I actually got my AoA at the first event that I did Children's Activities at and it wasn't my Canton's event. I was called by the Autocrat for Queens that year who told me that the MoC for Stargate couldn't be at the event and asked if I could do the Childrens Activities. I did. Interestingly, I got my AoA the night that Nessa got her Pelican. It was a very special night for me.

  Greetings all,

Daniel saved me from looking up the direct quote and what he says is correct.

Ansteorra has an award for service to a shire or canton - it is called the Sable Comet.

One of the cool things about living in a Barony or being in a Canton is that the Barony has landeds who can give out non-armiguous awards, sometimes referred to as "cookies". Shires do not have landed nobility and thus are deprived of that priviledge. They also have less of an officer roster to maintain and lower minimum membership requirements.

My question here goes deeper...why would you want to recoginize someone for service to their local group and _not_ put them in for an AoA? If they are working that hard, then they need recognition. If it is a matter of how long they have been in (and I do believe that we should see some sort of intent to stick around), then word fame, public thank yous, and the like are great ways to encourage good behavior that will need to be recorded and remembered for the day when the rec goes in.

Thanks Daniel for the look up,
  Medb
  Star

    Sorry had to resend.

Jayme, no confusion involved. I am familiar with the Company of the Sable Ram. Yes they are very similar. We do not always ask for suggestions from the populace, just like to keep a finger on what the rest of members of the Shire think. Heck, we even had someone who put in their own name. Needless to say. More than anything my post was more of a brief description of what we are and how we pick potentials. It was also done to show that they do fit within the parameters that Kihe set forth. As for Star's opinion I for one would be glad to hear and read the advice given.

      Lord Iaen,

I wasn't asking Star to weigh in on Guardians or Bella Luce. The Shire of Seawinds has the Company of the Sable Ram, which recognizes people for exceptional service. It is somewhat similar to the Guardians of the Gate, only, the Shire is usually not polled. The company members make the selections on their own. I was simply asking Star for her opinion.. Sorry for any confusion my post might've made.

      Jayme
