Who asks Magnus or Mari or Da'ud or Zenobia ...  There may be some
factoid that Baldwin of Erebor started as a drunken rumor at a 1980s
Known World Heraldic Symposium.

More seriously: there has to be evidence, and reasoning based on that
evidence.  The process is called "documentation".  (Yes, documentation
is fundamentally that simple.)
