Consider the standard visual presentation of the traditional compass
"rose" -- or visualize an antique compass, if that helps instead.

Compass star within and conjoined to an annulet, typically with the
cardinal points (N,S,E,W) "capped" by fleur-de-lys.

One CD from a compass star by addition of the annulet; the cardinal
pointer fleur-de-lys are generally deemed artistic license for SCA
heraldry.

Does that help, Charles?

(And PLEASE, if I'm wrong or incomplete, somebody correct me [gently - I
bruise!])
