Just a thought, but one I'll put out there, for those interested, to
consider. Yes, scanning a color emblazon from a submission form and
cropping out all the non-emblazon bits is a considerable time saving way
of putting together a graphic armorial, but I've seen my fair share of
colored emblazons, and they aren't always the most eye appealing. I
might suggest using the line drawings and coloring them in via computer.
For the fact that personal information is given on the submission forms,
I don't want scans of those forms traveling around to people who aren't
heraldic officers. Asterisk and Arbalest are the two offices that keep
copies of all the submissions forms. Bordure receives color copies, but
passes them up to Laurel and does not keep them on file. Local heralds
should have copies of forms that were submitted through their branches,
but as a resource, it isn't as complete. Working on this will likely
require the cooperation/participation of Asterisk and/or Arbalest for
access to copy/scan emblazons from forms.
This is also a project that Sigillarius, Zodiacus (and I'd recommend
Master Francois) should have some involvement with, in order to get it
published on the website, and/or connected with the online OP. It could
also be useful to tie it in with the HST, which HL Emma maintains.
I think it's a fine idea, and am willing to support it being done. I
would *very much* like to see a proposal outlining who will be in charge
of it, who will work on the team, how it will be done, and how it will
be implemented. If it seems necessary, I can create a herald
extraordinary office that will report to Star with a quarterly progress
report. Having ambition and motivation are often great ways to get
things going, but I find making someone responsible/accountable helpful
to keep things going. :)
