So I was looking up the exact spelling of "supererogatory"
(1. done or observed beyond the degree required or expected
  2. superfluous)
and found a dictionary that applied it to writing style:

     From WordNet (r) 2.0 [wn]:

     supererogatory
adj : more than is needed, desired, or required; "trying to
lose excess weight"; ... "yet another book on heraldry might
          be thought redundant"; ...

Harrumph.
