"An annulet of" is a registerable arrangement and charges "in annulo" is a period posture.  IMO a Step from Period Practice would probably not be an issue.

The issuse for the submission, however, was "identfiability".  If the arrangement and orientation are important to the submittor she is not obligated to follow the suggsestions made by the Bordure Herald on ways to increase the chances of identifiability.  All she needs to do is redraw the pawprints themselves (See the renderings used in the first two comments made by Gunnvor sifraharr and the description of unidentfiable pawprints cited by Magnus in response to the latter).

[Vert, an annulo of eight wolf's pawprints in annulo and a bordure Or]

returned for issues with the pawprints and whether they were identifiable.

If the number of pawprints were reduced to say, 5 and placed in annulo in
standard orientation instead of following each other as they are in the
submitted emblazon,
I'd like to poll the opinions of you folks out there as to whether this
would still possibly trigger a second step from period practice?

I understand there's going to be an automatic first step for using pawprints
at all.

The prints in a ring design is important to the submittor because it matches
her tattoo
