[ANSTHRLD] Herald's Point Question

I've been thinking about Robin's post.

Robin said:

Okay, I think this is actually close to what I am looking for. My
intention is for my herald's point to be the rally point for site and
list heralds, as well as a place for people to leave notes about
announcements that need to be made over the course of the day. In
effect, I've giving the event herald an "office" with an "answering
service" (pad and paper) to try and help him do his job. I might be
off the mark, but isn't there an implied directive from the king for a
group to make such announcements to their event goers?

Okay, and I am totally cool with this from an SCA perspective.

Historically, wouldn't the display of the local arms be closer to
accurate, though? The reason I ask is that I am keen to "do this
right", or lacking that, understanding where I am deviating from
history so I can make sure to pass on both the practical, and the
historical sides of heraldry to those that I might teach over time.

I have been told that the the green herald's tabard is overused, and
misused, since it technically means that we speak for the college of
arms when we ware it (correct me if I'm wrong). Maybe we can never
escape this SCAism, but this conversation is my way of looking at the
whole thing with some help before making any decisions.

And again, to Robin, Eldwin and Delph, Thank you so very much for your
input so far. Each of you have pointed out or said things that I was
oblivious to. Good points all, and very helpful.

Ivo
