Happy Holidays!

Joyous New Year!

I hope you all are enjoying your Obligatory Winter Celebration of
Things, because I have a BIG present for you all!

The final draft of the new Rules for Submissions has been sent to the
Board for approval. This draft incorporates many of the comments,
suggestions, and brain goo of both heralds and the general populace
over the last two and a half years.

I know you've all been waiting (I read SCAHRLDS too), but we didn't
want to just throw a Word .doc up and call it done.  So, we took the
time to make both PDF and HTML versions of them and made (and
HTMLified) the first two supplementary documents (hopefully, first of
many).  The first one is a summary of the changes between the current
rules and the final draft rules.  The second one is the Checklist for
Submissions, a sort of ultra-condensed version of the final draft
rules.

These documents are finally available at:
http://heraldry.sca.org/regs.html

As Da'ud Bob says "Check 'em out!"

Please also forward this to your kingdom's heraldry lists.  There's
still a while before these rules will take effect, and there will be a
transition period, but the sooner to check them out the better.  I'll
also be working on training materials for these new rules, so stay
tuned.

To everyone who commented, answered the early survey, talked my ear
off, let me talk at you for hours, cried at Juliana and I, offered
brilliant suggestions (and not so brilliant suggestions), commented on
either OSCAR rules posting - thank you.  Without your input, these
rules would not be anywhere near as good.  I considered all your
commentary (including the 60 pages of commentary on the last OSCAR
draft alone!), and I have tried to handle as many of the concerns as I
could (even if not resolving them in the way you suggested).  To my
fantastic appendix assistants [1], my proofreaders [ibid], and most
especially Istvan and Juliana - thank you; this wouldn't have been
possible without you.

I'll be around a bit more now that this is done, so feel free to send
me all your comments, kudos, and complaints.

Marie

I've forgotten anyone)
