In response to Eirik Halfdanarson's inquiry:
.
A hen is apparently allowed as there have been several registered including one fairly recently...Vreile Payensdochter (registered in February of 2009 via the Middle): "Sable, a hen and on a chief nebuly Or three elderberry sprigs vert."
.
As to "(Fieldless) a cock gules.", the Nov 2003 LoAR Cover Letter has discussion of what birds conflict with each other. One category of bird is the Poultry-shaped birds which include chickens, quail, partridge, and peacocks. The discussion states "Birds within a category are not substantially different from each other. They may be (but are not always) significantly different from each other based on the criteria in RfS X.4.e. Within the "regular-shaped birds" category, there is significant difference between an owl (close guardant) and a dove (close), but not substantial difference. However, in the same category, there is no difference between a falcon rising and an eagle rising." http://heraldry.sca.org/loar/2003/11/03-11cl.html
.
>From this, there are a couple of designs to consider:
1) the badge of Barbara Sterling (registered in August of 2001 via Meridies): "(Fieldless) On a dunghill cock gules a cross bottony Or."
This should be clear with 1 CD for the fieldless and 1 CD for tertiaries vs no tertiaries.
.
2) the badge of Tatiana Heinemann (registered December of 2008 via Trimaris): "(Fieldless) A bird gules bezanty."
This should be clear with 1 CD for the fieldless and 1 CD for tertiaries vs no tertiaries.
.
3) the badge of Hastini Chandra (registered in August of 1983 via Atenveldt): "Argent, a Bharat peacock passant gules."
There is a CD for the fieldless vs the argent field...but I do not know if a CD would be given for significantly different between a cock and Bharat peacock or not, as they are in the same bird category.
.
A couple of modern examples of this type of peacock are:

I'm not finding an example of period Bharat peacock, right off.
