[ANSTHRLD] Society heraldic displays

The arms of the kingdom are reserved for the King and can only be displayed
in his presence. There is a registered badge for a civil ensign that local
groups can fly in the King's absence. That badge is *Or, a mullet of five
greater and five lesser points within a bordure sable*, and it is typically
executed on a swallowtail banner.

The arms of the Society (Or, a laurel wreath vert) are closely associated
with the Order of the Laurel (in fact, if I'm not mistaken, the Order of
the Laurel HAS no badge because that order's "badge" is already registered
as the arms of the Society). I've seen stickers with the Society's arms and
the letters "SCA" written in versals inside the laurel wreath. But I've
never seen that executed in flag format. I don't know if a local group can
appropriately fly a banner depicting the Society's arms, and I would guess
(perhaps wrongly--who would know definitively?) that local groups may not.

I'm not the authority on these matters by any means, but I would
suggest--until a more trustworthy response appears on this thread--that
your best bet is banners of the shire's arms and the Ansteorran civil
ensign.

Yours in these Current Middle Ages,
Detlef von Marburg
