This is somewhat inaccurate.....A friend brought a bottle back from France in
is luggage last year and shared a taste or two. First, the reports of brain
decay and madness from casual use is largely a bunch of "poof" which is
clearly to be equated with the 1950's observation that marijuana smoking
caused a person to be a murderer and with the Victorian concept that
masturbation caused all kinds of bizaare physical problems.

Secondly, the herb from which absinthe is made (wornwood) is not illegal and
can be cultivated by anyone.

The above is not an attempt to denegrate the POTENTIAL health hazards of it's
use in large quantities but rather to point out that moderation is the key.
Many things such as the seeds of apples, the skin of beets, rue, the pits of
peaches, etc. ad nauseum have real potential for harm but when used in
moderation or small amounts and not consumed habitually most of the horror
stories posted aboutm certain herbs and foodstuffs become overeative in the
long run. Warning about the potential harm and education about the responsible
use of these substances is certainly warranted but a banishment because a few
people choose to abuse them is absurd, IMO.
