The dermatologist told me that is was a hereditary dry skin condition. He
called it "Princess skin" and told me to "pamper it". Basically, the oil
glands in my hands do not work properly, so my hands are not protected from
the elements. My fingers crack, bleed, get scaly, itchy, sometimes they
bump up.
When I make my ointment, I use equal portions of goldenseal and comfrey
root. The person who told me just said to use bees wax as a base, but I
quickly found out that was too solid and would not spread. Now I use bees
wax, with enough lanolin to make it spreadable. Lanolin by itself helps
the condition, but it feels too oily to me, and doesn't work as well as
when I use the herbal ointment.
