Good question. PETA, the ASPCA, and Humane Society haven't given
me any info on this. I called and checked their websites. Didn't
call any vets though. Only quick searches of the websites, though.
YMMV.

Joanna,
Dogs do not seem to get sick from the salmonella organism. There is a
veterinarian, Dr. Ian Billinghurst, who has written a book called 'Give Your
Dog a Bone'. Dr. Billinghurst advocates a completely raw diet - what is know
as BARF - bones and raw food - to those who discuss canine nutrition. I have
fed my Jack Russell terrier raw chicken backs and necks with no ill effects
for about 4 months now. I know of people who have had their dogs on this diet
for years with no problem. I do practise safe hygiene in respect to myself
when handling the meat - cleaning everything the raw meat comes into contact
with. Anyone interested in natural foods for their dogs - raw or cooked - can
contact me for info on a mailing list devoted to what we feed our dogs.
