HERB - Mint-bugs

So, now what do you use to keep away the grubs and beetles that love the
moist, dark earth under groundcovers?  Have been weeding the hostas,
hen+chickens, junipers, et al, and what's under there isn't pretty. 
Would rather have a natiural solution, plus pesticides say they'll kill
the good plants, too.
