When my back/neck are spasming and I can't get to my chiropractor, I
make a tea of one part valarian, one part skullcap, and lie down.
Valarian is an antispasmodic. Skullcap is one of the nervine herbs
(acting in the nervous system) that I have used (also with valarian and
some other ingredients) to calm hysterics, etc. The two seem to work
well together for me in this.
Also, my best friend's acupuncturist recommended lying on tenis balls to
help with her fibromyalga pain. (Put two ball side by side, and lie
with you spine in the "hollow" between the two balls. Relax for a
minute, then move the balls up or down to a new spot, and rest again.)
I find that this helps immensely, if I catch things before they've quite
gone into spasm.

Comfrey has no properties that would help muscle spamsms. Externally,
it will help injured tissue (ie. broken bones, sprains, etc.) heal
faster. Internally, it is an expectorant (helps get the gunk out of
your chest) and has been shown to be a carcinogen (causes cancer).
