I read that rosemary never grows taller than 6 ft.,
the height of the Savior when he lived on earth. Also,
legend had it that a tall rosemary bush meant the wife
ruled the family, so husbands sometimes did a bit of
"pruning" of extra vigorous bushes after dark.
In my mother's family (transplanted Irish types)the
saying went that you always "plant potatoes on St.
Patrick's Day, unless it falls on a Sunday, and then
God Bless You, you plant them on Monday".
Also, root crops should be planted at the waning of
the moon, and above-ground crops should be planted as
the moon waxed.  This was to ensure that they grew in
the proper direction.
