HERB - Cough medecine: was Herbs & Things:Jeanne Rose's Herbal

Nope. I lost the one from the German tea -- didn't you have it in what you
called your "Witchdoctor Book"? This was the one I cooked up my first year
in college, and have been tinkering with every since. I have a jar of the
stuff in my cupboard right now.
I usually tailor it somewhat based on overall symptoms and what I have on
hand in my cupboard (if I'm out of horehound, no horehound!) but the
general recipe is as follows:

Take (generous) equal portions of
     horehound
     licorice
     marshmallow
     coltsfoot
     chamomile
     rose hips
comfrey if desired (NOTE: POSSIBLY DANGEROUS HERB!)
pennyroyal if desired (NOTE: DANGEROUS HERB! DO NOT USE IF PREGNANT!
DANGEROUS!)

(These last two should be used internally with caution, however they *are*
specific for coughs, and in extreme cases I have used them. Pennyroyal, by
the way, seems to make it taste horrid.)

Add smaller ammounts of
      anise
      slippery elm (if available)
      rose petals

If available, add smaller amounts of:
      wintergreen
      birch bark
sage (again, will strongly alter flavor. Might wish to incorporate
heavily in food, instead.)

Brew. Drink with lots of lemon & honey. (I prefer to put a tablespoon of
honey in the glass *before* I serve it out, then offer more. Honey is part
of the cure, in this case.)
