HERB - Skirrets

Lebearchaulmn covered it pretty well.  Skirrets are a perennial root 
vegetable rather than an annual, and the roots "multiply".  Every year, it 
can be taken up, divided, and the harvest either replanted or eaten.  They 
were introduced to most of Europe during the Roman period and were a very 
common root vegetable in most of Europe throughout period.

I've never tasted skirrets, but they may be available at Chinese markets.
