Yep.  My mom swears by it, and she's the one who gets it baaad.  It's
something about the lye that's not used up in the soaping reaction - I
think (correct me if I'm wrong) that it's the lye that dries out your
skin something fierce, which stops the reaction, coupled with the soap
taking the oils off your skin.  Mom still covets what's left of a batch
that was made 30 years ago....
