HERB - Cardamom

Greetings to the list!
I have a request -- I've been persuaded to enter several of my beverages in
an upcoming brewing contest. The problem I've run into is that because I
made them for fun, I didn't document the flavorings I used. So I'm stuck
trying to justify stuff after the fact, which is *not* what I would have
preferred. So, that being said, I am trying to find references as to what
cardamom was thought good for in period. For example, a modern spice book I
have says that cardamom is valued for its digestive properties and to
sweeten the breath. But I can't find any period sources that say anything
about cardamom. (And I have tried on-line - both the Miscelleny and the
Florilegium.) Can anyone help?
With thanks,
