Cecille here......

OK, don't laugh now....but I had already thought of possible consequences of the sunlight beating down on my glass bottle herb mixture, so I shoved the bottle into one of my thick black wool, Army boot socks first. That way I figured the bottle would be warmed by the sun but the possible harmful direct rays of the sun would not effect the herbs....

  May I comment and ask a question regarding the practice of steeping herbs in the sun?
  Sun is valuable in providing heat, which will no doubt speed up the process. (Sun tea as an example).
  Light particularly sun light is very destructive in storing herbs, and strips them of their valuable components. Now for the question.
  Since the herbs are in vinegar or water which is intended to capture these components does the harmful effects of sun get canceled out in this case?

    <snip>
    This mixture has been sitting in my kitchen window sill for about 3 weeks (cheese cloth held in place with rubberband as jar cover),.
    ....................................................................................
    Next I strained this mixture and reserved the liquid.
    To each cup of herbal vinegar I have added about 3/4 cup of Rosewater.
    To this mixture I have added about 10 drops of Lavender Essential Oil. ...........................................................................................................
