HERB - Gartenmelde

I'm pretty sure it was someone on this list that was asking what Gardenmelde 
was/is.  This is what I found out from another herb list. I hope it is what 
you needed.

Gartenmelde also has the names: Mehlkraut, Wilder Spinat (wild spinach).
 Latin name: Atriplex hortensis L. Drug Name: Meldekraut, Herba Atriplicis.
 What do you use Gartenmelde for? And - most interesting, what is the
 medieval book you are reading? Is it "hortus sanitatis/gart der gesundheit" 
by
 Peter Schoeffer (1485)? That was the first book about herbs in the German
