Oooo, I was just in the library yesterday. Just happened upon a book dealing
with everyday life durring the last two centuries. (Got to get used to that
idea.)  ;-)
I don't remember the title. (Something to do with yesteryear, I think.)  It
had old photos and woodcuts. Delightfully done, but not much on details.
(Chapters were from two to six pages long. Mostly pictures. ) One chapter
dealt with laundry. It mentioned using Lavender water. You sprinkled (?) it
on the cloth and then applied your hot iron on it. The resulting steam would
aid in smoothing out the wrinkles, like modern steam-irons, and leave your
clothes smelling nice, not scorched. (This was especially important with
linen as moisture kept the cloth soft and not overly dried.)
