Washing all over with water, then strong soap after exposure, can often
prevent the reaction.

Jewelweed is supposed to be good for preventing and/or treating the
reaction.

One commercial product I've found much more helpful than calamine lotion
is Rhuli-gel, which stops the itching for a bit.
