Quinsy is a peritonsilar abscess - an abscess (collection of puss) that 
develops under a tonsil. Can be quite serious as it can get large enough to 
block the airway. Just saw one in the office about a month ago.

Dorland's Medical Dictionary still carries definitions of archaic terms.
