FYI, there's a medieval gardening list on Yahoogroups now. The description
is:

"This group is dedicated to gardening, especially medieval gardening.
Extant written and artistic references, study and theory, but mostly
practical application to re-created gardens, how to build them and how to
grow them. Articles by members and friends, and video of gardens in the
Files section. Images of members gardens, period illustrations, plants,
and public gardens in the photos section. Links to member's pages, period
sources on the web, and museums and sites with medieval gardens in the
links section. Upcoming events and workshops in the Calendar."

"It is no use telling me that there are bad aunts and good aunts.
At the core, they are all alike. Sooner or later, out pops the
cloven hoof." -- P.G. Wodehouse, _The Code of the Woosters_
