[Hou-announce] Fake IRS email warning

I'm writing to you today to warn of a particularly sneaky new scam
email that's making the rounds. I received a copy this morning in my
personal email box, as well as the inbox for the Stargate list. I
assume that many of you have received one as well, or will soon.

The subject is "Notice from: IRS" (even though it isn't actually from
the IRS, and is full of typos and spelling errors). The letter goes
on to tell you that you're eligible for a tax refund. All you need to
do is click the link in the email and "submit the tax refund
request". Yeah, right. Guess what they're going to ask for in that
form? (Answer: all of your financial information.) Guess what they're
going to do with that information? (Answer: rob you blind.)

Please beware of *any* email that asks you to submit any personal
information, especially things like your social security number or
bank account numbers. Neither the IRS, nor any actual government
agency, bank or any financial institution will do so.

Be careful out there.

Yours in service,
Michael Silverhands
old retired baron and list moderator
