The Celts, being an heroic race, have many words for hero, and they tend to overlap with champion and defender, as a hero is assumed to be both. Here are some of the Gaelic words:

curaidh - champion
diulnach - hero
feniagh - hero champion
feniaghtach - noble, chivalrous hero
fendeilagh - defender, protector
gaisgeach - hero warrior
seud - hero, jewel
sonn - hero (from suinn catha,
               stave of battle)
treanagh - he-man hero

In Service,
Padraig
