    While, I've never managed to have the time to make a chainmaille piece
of any size, I have done a bit of it. If your friend plans to buy pre-cut
rings then the only tools he'll need are 2 needle nose pliers. Preferably
ones without teeth.   Which he can pick those up at any hardware store.

    If he plans to make the rings himself, which can be substantially
cheaper,  he'll need to make a winder to make the springs. Then wire cutters
to cut the springs into rings. Which he can get the materials to make a
winder and wire cutters at most hardware stores.

    Also, with enough warning ahead of time, I'd be willing to teach a class
on making the different types of chainmaille. For those interested, email me
privately at ack3 at airmail.net and we'll get something set-up.
