My daughter, Brighid, who is 9, wishes to help waterbear. Obviously, she
cannot go on the field, but she can assist off the field. Her brother,
Weyland, who is 5, might help a little as well, but probably only for a
short while. I will help when I can, but do have other commitments. Maybe
I can talk Logan into helping.
As far as a dance guild goes, this is the first I have heard of it. Are you
interested in European dance or Middle Eastern? I don't know if these are
still active, but from the Elfsea website, I found the following information
when I clicked on the link for "guilds and workshops":
Dance - Middle Eastern Duchess Willow 817.794.0320
Dance Guild - European Lord Phillip 817.472.5275
If you take into account the fact that our Barony has just finished holding
three Kingdom level events in the course of what, 6 weeks or so, and add in
all the fighter practices, meetings, etc., then add our Canton's fighter
practices and meetings into the mix, then you can see how you might be hard
pressed to find anyone who isn't too tired or has the time to add one more
night for a dance guild meeting to their schedule.
Keep in mind that we have Lughnasad in August, Defender in September, Crown
Tourney, Three Kings, and Autumn Melees in November, none of which are held
by our Barony this time (thank all the deities), but are all heavily
attended by our populace, and then Dragonsfire Tor's Yule revel in December,
and you can see that it might not be until early next year before you will
be able to get any interest out of anyone.
I think most people are just waiting for the heat to break before they take
on any new projects, anyway. And as you said, you have a new baby, and will
be busy (and often sleepless!) because of that. Try not to be discouraged,
and spend whatever free time you can in studying about your topics of
interest so that you will be well prepared to head up a guild when a better
time presents itself.
Don't think that no one understands your frustration... I certainly do. I
spent two years living in Olney, Texas, which was 40 miles from a populace
meeting! In the two years I lived there, I only managed to make it to one
populace meeting, one A&S night, one fighter practice, and one event. Not a
sterling record. I did spend a lot of time online, though, on the Rialto,
to keep up with things in general, and spent a lot of time studying
genealogy, to get a better idea of what I wanted to do with my persona.
Down time is not always a bad thing. We need time to recharge our emotional
and physical batteries, if you will.
Amicalement,
Madelina

Subject: [Loch-ruadh] Lughnasad Water Bearers
Greetings!
I have received no volunteers for water bearing. Several people have said
that they have supplies but I have yet to hear from them or to see the
supposed supplies. I have two children and I am new to the water bearing
thing. I also have two newbies who will need my attention. If I don't get
anyone to sign up to help me at Lughnasad, there will be no water bearers.
I will not do it all alone. I am tired of staying up nights worrying about
this. I will pass around the list tomorrow evening at populace. I hope
some of you can help. After this, I have decided not to do much for a
while. I have tried, but have gotten no interest in what I wanted to do
(such as dance guild). So, until others come to me and ask for my input, I
am through. Maybe someone else will have better luck.
Cait
