That reminds me of a few lines in a gunsmithing book I have. The author
dedicates most of a chapter to the importannce, selection and care of
files. He says, essentially, "Give me a hot fire and a rock and I can
make a chisel. With a chisel, I can make a file. With a file I can make
anything else."
