Radish-Feast
A kind of banquet, at which a large quantity of radishes is consumed.
-- Joseph Wright's English Dialect Dictionary, 1896-1905

<snip> Two kinds of malt liquor are provided. After the repast ...
drinking and ... athletic competitions [take place]. <snip>
-- Notes and Queries, 1877

I think the key items to note in the above passage are, "Two kinds of malt
liquor are provided," and "drinking and ... etc." It would require several
alcoholic beverages to get me to eat a large quantity of radishes.
