rotten logging
A term used when romantic couples sit on a log by moonlight to court, a practice seldom followed on the range.
--Ramon Adams's Dictionary of the Range, Cow Camp, and Tail, 1946
Feast Day of St. Valentine
In late-medieval times, Valentine became a patron of what the Church called "engaged couples." Mrs. Humphry's Manners for Women (1897) argues in favor of brief engagements: "The bride-elect usually visits her future husband's family shortly after her engagement. This is often a rather trying time, for she knows she is the subject of very critiecal examination on the part of her prospective mother-in-law and sisters-in-law, to say nothing of father-in-law and broghers-in-law. Many an intended marriage has been broken off after the fiancee's visit to her intended husband's family."
Happy Valentine's Day
