This was sent to me by a friend who works for the City of Grand Prairie, and
seemed important enough to pass on.

** High Priority **

The presence of the virus responsible for causing West Nile Fever has been
detected in two birds in Dallas County. West Nile Fever is a mosquito
transmitted disease closely related to St. Louis Encephalitis. Most West
Nile infections are mild, but senior citizens are susceptible to
complications from the disease. The following guidelines from the federal
Centers for Disease Control and Prevention are designed to reduce the risk
of becoming infected with West Nile Fever:

1. Stay indoors at dawn, dusk, and in the early evening

2. Wear long-sleeved shirts and long pants whenever you are outdoors

3. Spray clothing with repellents containing permethrin or DEET since
mosquitoes may bite through thin clothing

4. Apply insect repellent sparingly to exposed skin. An effective repellent
will contain 35% DEET (N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide). DEET in high
concentrations (greater than 35%) provides no additional protection.

5. Repellents may irritate the eyes and mouth, so avoid applying repellent
to the hands of children

6. Whenever you use an insecticide or insect repellent, be sure to read and
follow the manufacturer's DIRECTIONS FOR USE, as printed on the product.
