Shloof
It is unlucky for a traveler on Monday morning to meet a man with shloof, or flat feet, but mischief may be averted by returning home, eating and drinking, and starting afresh on one’s way.

Feast Day of St. Gertrude of Nivelles
Troubled travelers prayed to this seventh-century saint as did newly deceased souls, whom, it was believed in medieval times, she shepherded on their three-day voyage “to the next world.”  A list of things “evil for the heart” from the Shepherds’ Kalender (1604) included “beans, peas, leeks, garlic, onions… too much business, [and] travel.”
