Derek Bell of The Chieftains dies
Derek Bell, one of the greatest harpist and a great musician has passed away this week at age 66. Along with Paddy Maloney and the other members of the Chieftains they have made Celtic music part of modern popular music. They have played with stars from pop music like Sting to country legends like Chet Atkins. They also promote and share the history of Celtic music through thier many CD's and concerts that are sell outs wherever they travel.
One of my first introductions to Celtic music was the Chieftains. It was one of Derek's harp CD's played at my Mother-in-laws funeral of all things that got me wanting to here more of the Chieftains music and started me on this long and winding road to my love of all things culturally and creatively Celtic.
