This is off-topic for this list, but I believe that it is a subject that
affects our SCA lives as well as our mundane lives.

Next Tuesday is Election Day (though early voting has already started).

If you are registered to vote, please do so.  One of the most precious
rights we have as Americans is the right to have a voice in who represents
us in government.  And the decisions you make in this regard are some of the
most individual and personal ones you can make; friends and family might try
to influence you, mass media will support one or another set of candidates,
and political parties will try to frighten you with horror stories about
their opponents.  But when it comes down to making the selection on Election
Day, the decisions are entirely yours, and you do not have to justify them
to anyone, no matter who you vote for.  This is a right that cannot be
trivialized.

I know that our group represents a broad spectrum of political thought and
belief, and I do not write this to try to influence anyone to vote as I
intend to, but rather to encourage you, no matter your political affiliation
or preference, to exercise your franchise and vote for the people you
believe will best represent you in government.

Don't like any of the candidates?  Robert Heinlein wrote:  "There may not be
anyone or anything you want to vote FOR, but there are always people and
ideas to vote AGAINST."
