I found a few references to the madu, also called a
maru.  It turns out it was of Indian origin, not
African.  Blame that misreference on not having to use
that information for a couple of years.

I'm now relatively sure that the adarga is of Japanese
design, unfortunately my browser is incapable of
translating Japanese characters, so I can't be sure.

I also found a reference to the word adarga with
regards to a Spanish shield, however, this isn't the
same shield/weapon we're talking about.
