Ira,
Take a pair of small sharp scissors and trim the fur away from the backing
until you have about 1/2 inch of material. You may have to pluck out the
fibers from the fabric. Now you can sew your seam, or fold over and stitch
down to make a hem.

Yes, you will get hair in your machine. But if you have a small stiff brush
- like a paintbrush - or little air duster - you can tidy up between seams.
Don't let it build up or it will gum up the works. Don't forget to open up
your bobbin case and brush that out too!

Or you can hand sew it. Hand sewing it is probably easier in the long run.

Okay, so I had this great idea to make a rug for my dorm room using the fake
fur material from Wal-Mart, but I am hesitant to sew it together using my
sewing machine, is the hair going to come off and stick in my machine?  Or
is it okay to sew it up like that?  Or am I just stuck handsewing it?
